Two RNLI Lifeboats Answer Sightings of Red Flares
At 22.45 hours on Tuesday 8 March 2011, Dungeness RNLI lifeboat was asked to launch to assist Littlestone RNLI lifeboat to search in the Hythe Bay area for red flares that had been reported.
Dungeness lifeboat launched at approximately 23.00 hours to investigate red flares seen in the Hythe Bay area, Littlestone lifeboat had already launched. The two RNLI lifeboats searched in a sectored pattern on the sea while the H.M. Coastguards searched the shoreline.
Caps from flares were found on the sea wall near New Beach Holiday Park, Dymchurch. The incident was declared a HOAX. Both RNLI lifeboats returned to their stations.
