News Release - 25 October 2007

Second coxswain of Dungeness RNLI lifeboat Stuart Richardson, is appointed new coxswain of Dover Lifeboat.

Stuart Richardson 36, was born at Dungeness and went to the local primary school in Lydd before attending Southland's comprehensive school in New Romney. He joined the crew on the Dungeness RNLI lifeboat at the age of 17 when his father William was coxswain.
Stuart's actual professsion was a commercial fisherman owning two boats, one working from Rye and the other from Dungeness, employing five people. He married Clair his wife in 1993 and they went on to have three children, Sophie, Jack and Maisie.
Stuart had his own house built in Battery Road, Lydd on Sea but in 2001 he retired from fishing to take on a fulltime helmsman's job at Tower lifeboat Station, one of the new RNLI stations on the Thames. He commuted daily from Dungeness to his job in London but on his days off he still managed to make his voluntary commitment to Dungeness RNLI lifeboat as second coxswain.

Stuart and family will now be moving to Dover in November to take up his new fulltime appointment with Dover RNLI lifeboat
