Mark Richardson 2016


Mark is a retained Deputy Second Coxswain at the station and joined the crew in 1986. In 1992 he received a Chairman's letter of thanks, in 2002 he received a Director of Operations letter of thanks and in 2006 he received a long service medal from the RNLI and another Director of Operations letter of thanks. In 2012 as duty coxswain, he was awarded the RNLI Thanks of the Institution inscribed on Vellum for the rescue of seven people in hurricane force winds from the yacht Liquid Vortex on 3 January, 2012. In 2012 he was also awarded the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Medal. In 2016 Mark was awarded the RNLI's 30 year long service badge. In 2017 he was awarded the RNLI's special 'Excellence in Volunteering' Award for volunteers who regularly go the extra mile in their roles.

He was born at Dungeness and still lives at Lydd On Sea with his wife and they have three children. He owns the local fish shop which has been in his family for 70 years. Mark lists his hobby as football and is a keen supporter of Gillingham Football Club.
